Calgary Fire Department is now accepting applications for qualified, community-minded probationary firefighters

The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) is once again opening its application process for firefighter recruits. Anyone who meets the minimum requirements, is ready for a life of service to the community and is committed to fitness, is encouraged to apply online until March 31, 2025.

The CFD anticipates hiring 130 – 150 probationary firefighters from this posting.

Submitting an application is the first of a ten-step recruitment process. Once applications are approved, successful applicants will be invited to participate in the remaining steps, some of which include an aptitude test, interview, a pre-employment polygraph exam, physical ability test and medical assessment.

“The Calgary Fire Department is looking for passionate and dedicated individuals from Calgary and across Canada to join our team. We serve a dynamic and diverse city, and we’re searching for recruits who live our values of Pride, Professionalism, Teamwork and Respect, and who represent the community we protect,” said Kristin Boisjoli, Recruitment Coordinator.

Calgary firefighters respond to a variety of calls, including fires, emergency medical incidents, motor vehicle collisions, and chemical and hazardous materials calls. As part of their career development, firefighters can specialize in technical rescue, aquatic rescue and hazardous materials.

In 1999, the CFD became the first Canadian fire service to receive accreditation status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. Today, it is the sixth-largest fire service in the world to be accredited and one of ten Canadian fire services to have received this prestigious designation. Of more than 30,000 fire agencies in North America, only 301 have achieved this status so far.

The CFD is committed to supporting a safe, healthy, inclusive and respectful workplace, and is looking for like-minded individuals who are ready for a life of service, dedicated to the community. To learn more or apply, visit calgary.ca/CFDYYC.
