The City of Calgary thanks Calgarians for their participation in the Olympic Plaza Brick Retrieval Program. The registration period, which allowed original purchasers to request an inscribed Olympic Plaza brick, has officially closed. City teams are now processing the submitted applications.
Over the registration period, The City received 5,105 applications to have inscribed bricks retrieved ahead of the upcoming Olympic Plaza Transformation Project.
With the registration period now closed, no new applications will be accepted. People who registered before the December 18 deadline will be receiving an email today confirming their application has been received.
Over the next two weeks, crews will continue to carefully remove the bricks from Olympic Plaza. However, due to factors such as the 40-year-old age of the brick, prior damage, replacements, and construction materials used, despite best efforts, it may not be possible to remove all bricks intact.
Registrants will receive a second email before January 3, 2025 advising if their requested brick was successfully removed. If their requested brick remains intact, the e-mail will provide details for in-person pick-up on Friday, Jan. 3, and Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025.
The City of Calgary our partners at CMLC and Arts Commons, thank all participants for their understanding and cooperation during this process. Together, we are committed to honouring the memories embedded in Olympic Plaza while transforming it into a modern gathering place and world class Performing Arts Centre.
