An elderly man is dead following a rear‑end crash on Calgary’s Crowchild Trail last month.
Calgary police say the collision occurred in the southbound lanes of Crowchild near 32 Avenue NW on Aug. 22.
According to police, a 79‑year‑old man driving a 2015 BMW suddenly slowed in his lane. A 2024 Toyota Tacoma travelling behind him then rear‑ended the BMW.
The BMW driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries and died on Saturday. The 57‑year‑old driver of the Toyota and his two nine‑year‑old passengers suffered minor injuries.
Police say speed, alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. Investigators are examining the medical fitness of the BMW driver as part of the investigation.
