Fire tears through several Cochrane homes, leaving residents displaced

Officials are still trying to determine a cause after a fire tore through several homes in Cochrane on Thursday, forcing residents to evacuate.

The fire broke out in the town’s Heartland community west of of Highway 22, and south of Highway 1A.

Multiple homes were badly damaged and many people were displaced during the emergency, according to the Town of Cochrane.

Emergency crews managed to rescue a cat from one of the homes. The animal was given oxygen using a specialized pet mask before being taken for veterinary care.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

The Canadian Red Cross is currently assisting the impacted residents.
