A man is facing multiple charges after a stolen truck sped through several southwest Calgary neighbourhoods last month while fleeing from police.
Calgary police say the chase began around 11:20 p.m. on Aug. 22, when a woman on Stonehaven Road SW in the community of Southwood reported a suspicious truck parked nearby.
The woman also reported two strangers beneath her vehicle. The two individuals returned to the truck and drove away.
Officers found the truck about five minutes later on Southampton Drive SW and tried to stop it.
The driver refused to stop and drove away at high speed. The HAWCS helicopter tracked the truck from above as it allegedly weaved through residential streets and major roads, passing vehicles on the shoulder.
Around 11:30 p.m., a woman exited the truck but officers were unable to locate her.
Police deployed a spike belt on Elbow Drive SW, slowing the vehicle. Around midnight, the driver abandoned the stolen truck and ran into a home on Sacramento Drive SW.
Officers arrested the suspect about 20 minutes later.
Police searched the truck and found stolen licence plates, a stolen 2021 Haro bicycle, a bag containing break‑and‑enter tools, and stolen insurance and registration documents.
Travis Lee Cramer, 31, is charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, driving while prohibited, six counts of possession of stolen property, and possession of break‑and‑enter tools. He also faces two Traffic Safety Act charges for driving without insurance and using unauthorized plates.
Cramer is scheduled to appear in court in October.
