A months-long investigation has resulted in the seizure of large quantities of drugs, cash and guns across central Alberta, with two men now facing charges.

Red Deer RCMP launched the investigation in March 2026 into a suspected drug trafficking operation.

Investigators later identified two suspects and multiple locations connected to the operation.

On Sept. 10, police executed seven search warrants in Red Deer, Innisfail, Airdrie and a rural area north of Sundre. The warrants were carried out at three homes, a business, two camper trailers and a vehicle.

Police said the searches led to the seizure of more than six kilograms of cocaine, more than $280,000 in cash, more than 1.4 kilograms of psilocybin mushrooms and more than 600 grams of methamphetamine.

Investigators also seized an Uzi-style submachine gun, three handguns, ammunition and other items believed to be connected to drug trafficking.

“This investigation resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of illicit drugs, cash, and firearms that would otherwise have been distributed throughout our communities,” said Red Deer RCMP Insp. Jeff McBeth in a statement.

Rory Brand, 37, of Airdrie, has been charged with multiple offences related to drug trafficking, proceeds of crime and firearms. He was denied release and remains in custody.

Robert Newell, 43, of Red Deer, faces charges of drug trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000. He was released with conditions.

Both suspects were scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
