Police say a law enforcement blitz in Chestermere led to several arrests of fugitives and warrants issued.
RCMP along with Alberta Sheriffs conducted a targeted warrant roundup in the suburb-city Aug. 24, and they say the results included the arrests of five fugitives.
“The Chestermere RCMP continues to work closely with its policing and enforcement partners to locate individuals with outstanding warrants and hold offenders accountable for outstanding matters before the courts.” said Staff Sgt. Kathy Klassen, Detachment Commander of Chestermere RCMP.
Officers from the two services worked together to issue warrants, and attended 29 residences throughout Chestermere.
“Community engagement during the initiative was very positive, with members receiving appreciation and support from residents for their efforts to locate individuals wanted by police,” states an RCMP news release.
A total 10 warrants were executed, with offences including theft, failing to abide by release condition or to appear in court.
The crackdown also lead to 18 investigations with information expected to play a role in future arrests.
“Targets identified as residing outside the City of Chestermere have been added to the Alberta Sheriffs FASST South target list and will be addressed as resources and operational priorities allow. Several additional targets were contacted by telephone. Follow-up action will be conducted to ensure outstanding fines are addressed and paid where applicable.”
RCMP say intelligence was discovered in four cases concerning suspects who may be leaving the province or country.
