A man is facing a first-degree murder charge after allegedly breaking into his ex-wife’s southwest Calgary home and fatally attacking her.
Emergency crews were called to a home in the community of Belmont around 1:50 a.m. Monday where they found a woman dead and took one person into custody.
Calgary police say the victim’s ex-husband broke into the house that she shared with a partner and fatally attacked her.
The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Anna Brazhko.
Police have charged Brazhko’s ex-husband, 47-year-old Mohamad Anass Mahmou Al-Sahli, with first-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in a Calgary courtroom on Tuesday.
“This is a tragic example of the devastating impacts that domestic violence has on families in Calgary,” says CPS Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson in a statement. “Help is available, and we implore anyone who may have a loved one experiencing domestic violence to reach out and stop the cycle.”
