A severe thunderstorm watch is in place on Canada Day in Calgary, the country’s weather service says on Wednesday.

A notice says conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms, ones capable of generating strong winds, large hail, and heavy rain.

Environment Canada says conditions are also favourable for funnel clouds.

It reminds Calgarians to head indoors when there’s lightning.

660 NewsRadio Meteorologist Kevin Stanfield says the high is also going to be 21 C on Thursday, “with the chance for isolated thunder showers and scattered showers in the afternoon.”

He says the low is slated to drop to 10 C due to the potential storms.
