Calgary police have arrested two more men as part of a long‑running investigation into extortion schemes targeting members of the South Asian community.
Investigators say new charges were laid after threats were made against a northeast Calgary business on May 5, prompting an investigation that led to multiple arrests at a home a few weeks later.
Police say the case began when a business owner in Saddle Ridge received a call demanding money and warning that the owner, along with their friends and family, would be shot if they did not comply. The victim contacted police, and the Organized Crime & Offender Management (OCOM) team launched an immediate investigation.
On May 28, officers arrested four men and executed a search warrant at a home on Saddlestone Way NE. Two of those men are now facing charges.
Sandeep Singh, 30, and Amandeep Mallhi, 39, both from Calgary, are each charged with extortion and possession of proceeds of crime. They are scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Since the extortion series began in April 2025, Calgary has recorded 46 related incidents, including 19 shootings at homes, businesses, or vehicles. Fourteen people have now been charged with 54 offences connected to the investigation.
“We are making meaningful progress in this complex series of extortions, and these latest charges are a direct result of focused, coordinated and proactive police work,” says CPS Supt. Jeff Bell in a statement.
