A chaotic morning commute in Strathmore on Thursday saw a driver allegedly speed through town, collide with a school bus, and flee on foot into a local government building before being arrested.
Strathmore RCMP say the incident began around 8:20 a.m. when multiple callers reported a vehicle weaving into oncoming traffic while speeding south on Wheatland Trail.
Witnesses told police the driver attempted to pass a moving school bus on the right near Willow Drive, mounting the sidewalk and scraping along the bus’s passenger side and doors.

Despite the collision, the vehicle continued at high speed, allegedly blowing through stop signs and red lights as it headed toward Lakeside Boulevard. Concerned bystanders called police as the vehicle came to a stop near a business on Park Lane Drive.
RCMP say the driver then fled on foot and entered Strathmore Town Hall. Officers arrested the individual shortly after and allege the driver later refused to participate in a drug recognition expert examination.
The accused, a 36‑year‑old Strathmore resident, was released for medical treatment.
RCMP say the 36-year-old Strathmore resident is expected to face several charges, including impaired operation of a motor vehicle, failure to comply with a drug recognition demand, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, and dangerous driving.
The accused was released for medical treatment and is expected to appear in a Calgary courtroom in March.
